Maria Montessori – La nouvelle femme, the debut work by Léa Todorov with Leila Bekhti, Jasmine Trinca, Raffaele Esposito, is a French-Italian co-production that tells the story of the meeting between Lili d'Alengy, a famous Parisian courtesan, and Maria Montessori, a young doctor who is developing a learning method for children who were then defined as “deficient”. Both have a secret to hide: the former a daughter with a handicap, the latter a son born out of wedlock.
Filming took place in Rome and Paris. In the province of Rome, locations included Ariccia, where Palazzo Chigi lent its interiors for Lili's Roman residence, and Frascati, at the CPIA 7 "Anna Maria Lorenzetto" Institute.
