La casa degli sguardi is Luca Zingaretti’s directorial debut which stars Zingaretti, Gianmarco Franchini and Federico Tocci, produced by BiBi Film, Clemart, Stand by Me, Rai Cinema. Inspired by Daniele Mencarelli’s novel, Marco (Gianmarco Franchini) is a 20-year-old with a great capacity to feel, sense and empathize with the pain of the world. He writes poetry and uses alcohol and drugs to achieve "forgetfulness", a state of unconsciousness impenetrable even to the anguish of existing and living. Incapable of "being" unless his blood alcohol level is high, he has distanced himself from everyone, friends and girlfriend who are scared by his desire to destroy himself. His mother has passed away, leaving a gaping void; his father, a witness to this slow suicide, is incapable of managing so much suffering but at least tries to “be there”. He starts working at the cooperative cleaning the city’s paediatric hospital Bambin Gesù, convinced that the experience of contact with sick children will kill him.
The film was shot in Rome: at the Policlinico Umberto I, which stood in for Bambin Gesù, and the National Gallery of Modern and Contemporary Art; and the municipalities of Marino, Ariccia and Santa Marinella.
