Rome and Favignana were the locations chosen by Carlo Sironi for his film Quell'estate con Irène, presented at the 74th Berlinale in the “Generation14plus” section, supported by the Ministry of Culture through the Italy- France co-development and coproduction protocol, produced by Kino Produzioni, June Films, Rai Cinema.
In August 1997, Clara and Irène first meet on an outing organised by the hospital where they are both being treated for a disease which seemed to have been defeated but still looms present in both their lives. When they are together, their fears dissipate, and timid and solitary Clara and bold Irene immediately become inseparable friends to the point of deciding not to return to their families, but instead to run away to a Sicilian island, far from everyone, where they can finally experience their first real summer. They record their time together on VHS, sharing their fears for the future, while they live carefree days and dream of falling in love.
