Romantiche is the directorial debut of Roman actress Pilar Fogliatti. She plays all four main characters who are linked only by a psychoanalyst, Valeria Panizzi (Barbora Bobulova), in the four episodes which are set in Rome and the surroundings.
In episode 1, Eugenia Praticò is an aspiring screenwriter who left Palermo in search of success in Rome. She moves to the Pigneto neighbourhood, where the via Pigneto – busy with outdoor tables, cafes and restaurants – is recognisable.
In the alleys of the capital’s historic centre lives aristocratic Uvetta Budini di Raso, her head always in the clouds, she is constantly enthusiastic about everything that happens around her: she is about to step into a totally new world – a working life – in a bakery.
Michela Trezza is a typical girl from the hinterland. She happily lives and works in Guidonia, a town that her friend may despise but she would never leave. This flower of the provinces is about to marry Ivano (Emanuele Propizio).
The last episode is set in North Rome where Tazia De Tiberis lives in the upscale neighbourhood of Parioli, she wants everything under her control, including her boyfriend Riky (Edoardo Purgatori). To keep fit she plays sport with her mother in Villa Borghese. Her combative character leads her to argue with Riky, first on the Duca d’Aosta bridge, facing the Foro Italico, and then piazza Grecia, in the Villaggio Olimpico, where she tackles the escort with whom her boyfriend cheated.
