The 20th Century Studios psychological horror The First Omen is a prequel to the classic horror film. Set in 1971, it follows Margaret, a young American woman sent to Rome to begin a life of service to the Church. Once there, she encounters a darkness that leads her to question her own faith and uncovers a terrifying conspiracy that hopes to give birth to the embodiment of evil.
The film directed by Arkasha Stevenson is based on the characters created by David Seltzer. The story is by Ben Jacoby and screenplay by Tim Smith & Arkasha Stevenson and Keith Thomas. David S. Goyer and Keith Levine serve as producers, with Tim Smith, Whitney Brown and Gracie Wheelan as executive producers.
The First Omen stars Nell Tiger Free, Tawfeek Barhom, Sonia Braga, Ralph Ineson, Nicole Sorace, Andrea Arcangeli, with Charles Dance and Bill Nighy. The cast also includes Italian actors Dora Romano, Mia McGovern Zaini, Eugenia Delbue, Giacomo Henri Dossi, Guido Quaglione and Charita Cecamore.
Principal photography took place from September 19 to November 22, 2022 in various locations in and around Rome, and the soundstages of Lumina Studios. The buildings used for the orphanage are located in beautiful Villa Parisi and on a farm in Procoio, both just kilometres from the centre of Rome. Italian locations also included Palazzo dei Papi and Porta San Pietro in Viterbo, and the Church of San Pietro Apostolo and Cathedral of Nepi.
