Set in bourgeois Rome and its rural suburbs, the film focusses on two opposite contexts that eventually intertwine: the luxury hotels of via Veneto and the Chinese community of Rome.
The film opens with an escort leaving the Hotel Flora in Frascati before being killed by a serial killer on the one side while, on the other, a natural event occurs, the solar eclipse. This is when a young woman named Diana (Ilenia Pastorelli) is driving down the city streets. Around her, people have gathered to watch the rare event: the sky begins to darken, to the marvel of the curious onlookers crammed into the park of Eur and the bewilderment of the animals. The eclipse is a precursor of the darkness that will envelop the woman when she is targeted by a serial killer.
When Diana loses her sight after an accident and has to build a new life for herself, she is entrusted into the care of Rita (Asia Argento), a specialist in assisting the blind. Rita encourages her to get a guide dog from a training centre in Formello and to explore the outside world again. While the two women are walking by the Colosseum, Diana realises that the serial killer is following her movements, intent on finishing his work.
Feeling endangered, Diana turns to her friend for help and later goes to her house outside Sacrofano. This marks the start of a nightmare in which she runs through the country roads of Montopoli di Sabina, amidst woods, rivers and cliffs, guided by little Chin who takes care of her. The ending takes place at Fiumicino airport.
