Circeo, the series, tells a story that really happened: one of the bloodiest episodes in the history of the Italian Republic. From 29 to 30 September 1975, Rosaria Lopez and Donatella Colasanti were held prisoner in a villa at Punta Rossa in Circeo, violently beaten by boys from "respectable Rome" families. Rosaria is killed while Donatella manages to survive by pretending to be dead, becoming the symbol for the campaign against gender violence, considered at that time a crime against morality, not against the person.
Much of the series was filmed and set in Rome, while the villa where the girls are held and tortured for two days is located in San Felice Circeo. Scenes on the coast were filmed at the "La nave" beach club in Fregene while sets in Fiano Romano were used for Casa delle Donne, a meeting place for the feminist movement.

Circeo is a story that is both private and public at the same time. It is the story of a woman’s trauma and rebirth, but also of an event destined to change Italian society forever. “The Circeo massacre” is not only one of the most infamous pages in the country’s crime history, but also a watershed in the emancipation of Italian women. The case, which shook public opinion profoundly at the time, became the catalyst for the feminist movement’s campaign to change the laws governing sexual violence, considered at the time a crime against morality and not against the person.
