Three Floors, adaptation of Eshkol Nevo’s novel, was shot in Rome between March and May 2019. A large part of the film was shot in an apartment building in Via Giuseppe Montanelli, just behind Viale Mazzini in the Prati neighbourhood. Several families live in the three-storey building, their lives just brushing without ever really touching. Even when they do spend time together, relationships brusquely fall apart: as in the case of little Giovanna and her neighbour Renato, a grandfather figure to her, who are found in parco della Vittoria with the old man in a state of confusion. Inter-familial relationships are also interrupted: as when Dora (Margherita Buy) and Vittorio (Nanni Moretti), both judges (they are seen walking out of a courthouse whose exteriors are the former Montezemolo barracks, where the Corte dei Conti is housed, not far from where they live) refuse to help their son when he kills a woman in a car accident. In the background, the city is scarcely glimpsed, dark and almost invisible.
