Based on the novel by Amanda Sthers, who also directed the film, Promises is the story of Alexander (Pierfrancesco Favino) who reveals himself to the viewer through continual flashbacks that take him back to various moments in his life, spent between Italy and London. Scenes about the events that affected his childhood take place, in particular in Ladispoli, on the beach and near the Odescalchi Castle in Palo Laziale. Rome also features: the area around piazza Navona between vicolo della Volpe and vicolo della Pace.

Plot
Alexander, his difficult childhood behind him, is finally happy with a wife and daughter. Laura runs an art gallery and is about to get married. From their first exchange when they meet at a party, they realise that there is no way out for either of them. But life appears to have other plans for them.
